Traffic Survival School (TSS) is a program aimed at modifying drivers' behavior by providing educational support to avoid adverse traffic situations. The program aims to increase drivers' knowledge of Arizona traffic laws, define their responsibilities while driving, and, most importantly, improve their attitude toward safe driving.
In other words, if you run a red light, get a DUI, or have too many points against your license, MVD will require you to attend TSS to keep your driver's license in good standing; however, these are just a few examples. You’ll be notified of this requirement through a Corrective Action Notice (CAN) from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT)/Motor Vehicle Department (MVD).
Additionally, courts can and do order juveniles with poor driving behavior to attend the course (helping them establish a lifetime of safe driving habits). Courts may also refer traffic violators to a Traffic Survival School as a condition of sentencing.
The Arizona Chapter National Safety Council (ACNSC) administers TSS as a Chapter of ADOT. These schools train and assist errant drivers in achieving proper attitudes and techniques for operating motor vehicles and strengthen their knowledge of the State of Arizona's motor vehicle laws.
A quick note – Traffic Survival Schools should not be confused with Defensive Driving Schools, administered through the Arizona Supreme Court. Defensive Driving School is a court diversion program that allows eligible drivers to have their violations dismissed. If a driver chooses this option and is suitable, the offense will not be included on the driver's driving record, and no points will be assessed for the violation.
Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) requires 8 hours of instruction. Class begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 4:30 PM. During class, you will be allowed breaks and lunchtime.
1) Your TSS letter or 39-month Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) 2) Photo ID 3) $160.00 cash, money order, or Card. Food and drinks are welcomed.
You may obtain your 39-month Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) at AZMVDNOW.GOV and bring it to class in place of your letter. Or, contact us for assistance at no additional charge (allow 24 hours for school to verify). Please know, if you are not in the system and did not confirm your eligibility prior, the instructor must turn you away. If you are unable to maneuver the website, give us a call, we can help!
MVD allows 60 days from the “Date Action Begins” to complete a TSS class. At the end of class, you will receive a Certificate of Completion (COC) for your records. We will send you an electronic update to MVD after you complete the TSS class.
EXCEPTION: If your license is already suspended for failure to attend TSS timely, you MUST pay a reinstatement fee. Attending our class will NOT reinstate your license. To reinstate your license, visit an MVD office or MVD’s website: www.azmvdnow.gov.
If you are Court Ordered (for something OTHER than DUI) and your court paperwork specifically states in the decision (signed by the Judge) that you are required to attend "traffic survival school" then Rules of the Road is the class for you. Bring with you to class a full copy of the court paperwork, photo ID, and payment. Contact Rules of the Road to ensure your compliance is recorded into the system.
The TSS course can be part of a "Plea" agreement with the Courts. It can also be taken as a safety certification for a teen or adult driver. Please call us for further information regarding "Volunteer" participation.
You can sign up on this website, and we will cover the rest. You will receive an email and text confirmation, and you will also get a reminder text the day before the class.
Not a problem! Give us a call, text us, or send us an email.
Avoid suspension of your Driver's License, and compliance with the TSS requirements.
